Day Two – 31 Days to Building a Better Blog

Posted by deem on 8th February 2009

I need one individual to audit my blog and answer the following questions.

  • What are your first impressions?
  • What did you first think the blog was about when you arrived at it?
  • Did you find it easy to read/navigate/understand?
  • What did you ‘feel’ when you first arrived at the blog?
  • What suggestions do you have on how I could improve this blog?
  • What questions do you have having surfed the blog?
  • What words would you use to describe the design?
  • What are the main things that you remember about the blog 10 minutes later?

Day One – 31 Days to Building a Better Blog

Posted by deem on 24th January 2009

E-Mail a New Reader

I sent a comment over to N. Z. Waikato at the Tamaki Today blog.  Their class has been kind enough to follow by blog.  I hope I am worthy of their following.  Tamaki Today’s blog is used to promote the work of Room Six at Tamaki Intermediate School located in Panmure, Auckland, New Zealand.  Check out their blog it is very interesting and a lot of fun.

Also as a way to enlist more readers I am going to send out a message using Twitter.  This is a great means to networking.

31 Days of Blogging

Posted by deem on 17th January 2009

This blog post by Sue Waters caught my eye and I have be debating the idea over the last few weeks.  I researched the idea and started following Steve Dembo’s site “30 Days To Being a Better Blogger”.  I like the concept and think it would be a lot of fun, especially during the cold winter months when we spend more time indoors.  But I have no idea what I would write or show on the blog for 31 days.

Then a “Ta Da” occurred a few moments ago.

Something you don’t know about me is for 15 years I enjoyed working as a Litigation Paralegal.  I love researching and finding answers to questions.  So here is my idea on the concept of 31 days to better blogging.  Tell me your questions about blogging, what you want to learn or have seen on other blogs and don’t know how it is done.  I will research the subject matter and attempt to answer your questions.  I need at least 31 different subjects to research.

Hopefully I have enough followers to get this project started.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

P.S.  After posting I came up with another idea.  Let me know of any key blogging elements missing from my site and I can work on adding them to the site.

What I Have Learned

Posted by deem on 27th December 2008

Okay, I am no longer new to blogging. It has been an exciting journey reading blogs and learning more about blogging.  In my quest to learn more about blogging I have used resources from many fun sites on the  internet, suggestions from co-workers and ideas from other blogs.  These sites have been invaluable in helping me with my blogging and blog site. I have listed a few of those sites below:

LibraryThing.com – A great site to list books you have read, are reading and want to read. They have great reviews and you can join book chats. You can also add your books to your blog site with an easy to embed widget.

shelfari.com – Another good site to list books you have read, are reading and want to read. They also have reviews and book chats. There widget can be customized and looks a lot nicer on your sidebar.

vizu.com- I use this site to build polls to be embed in my site. I like to know what my visitors like and don’t like about my blog site. You can customize a poll on any subject matter

befunky.com- I was introduced to this site by a co-worker. This is a fun site to customize your avatar. I use the Uvatar link from this site. The other links are fun to play with also.

bubleshare.com- This site is easy to use for sharing pictures and embeding your pictures to a website or blog.

delicious.com – A great site for storing bookmarks. Easy to download and organize your bookmarks. A co-worker introduced me to this site when she had a computer issue and lost all of her bookmarks. She was able to recover her bookmarks from her delicious site.

flickr.com – Another site for downloading your pictures for storing and sharing.

iLike.com- Use this site to set up your personal playlist. You can then embed the playlist on your blog. I enjoyed setting up my playlist but had problems when I embedded it onto my blog. The code was interfering with other widgets. I am still playing with the code and hope to eliminate the problem.  I need to edit this statement.  Seth with iLike saw my post and contacted me via my blog.  He is looking into this issue and so far has found it only occurs with Internet Explorer.  Another reason to use Firefox when blogging.  I will keep you up to date with additional information.  Kudos to Seth and ILike.com for such a prompt response.

polls.zoho.com – Another fun site for customizing polls for your blog or website.

skype.com- I love my Skype. Again I was introduced to Skype by a co-worker. It is great. Our extended family was not able to get together for Christmas this year so we video call each other. The grandparents loved watching the grandkids open their Christmas presents. This is a very easy service to use and is not a memory hungry program.

vuvox.com – As the website states “Media Creation Made Easy”. I have really enjoyed making collages using this site.

blip.tv- This is the easiest site I have found for downloading video and embeding the video on my blog. Check it out.

magicwidgets.com- This is a great site for personalizing your blog or webpage. You can get code for fun banners and glitter text.

writeboard.com – A great concept for writing, editing and sharing your ideas.

jigsawpuzzle.com – This site is a lot of fun.

magneticpoetry.com- I love this site and will be using it alot with my son.

cantwritepoems – This site is fun to get the creative minds moving after the holiday break.

goanimate.com -  We have had a lot of fun with this animation site.  It is great for all ages.

Thank you to all who have help me through the first stage of the blogging learning curve.  Have fun blogging
